Inspired by the properties of the materials I use, as well as the techniques of kiln fusing and sagging, my work illustrates the conflicting relationship of the natural pull of gravity on the glass and the restrictive qualities of the enclosed wire grid. The small details are important to my designs.
Although glass is somewhat uncontrollable as a material, the way in which I construct each piece helps me to anticipate the overall finish. I love the dichotomy between the unpredictability of glass and the control that the knowledge of my materials and techniques allows me.
The many variables of colour application facilitate an almost endless number of possibilities when creating these one off pieces. Each can be guided and manipulated by the scale, shape, grid formation, applied texture, number of layers, wrapped sections and the firing specification can dramatically change each design.
